- CO2 EXTRACT – CO2 extraction is a process using pressurised CO2 gas to extract all botanical materials from a plant, creating a pure, clean, high-quality oil with no residue. CO2 extracts are generally more representative of the original plant material than oils extracted by other means such as steam distillation or solvent extraction, as there is less residue and a purer form of oil results. CO2 extraction is also considered an environmentally sustainable method of oil extraction as it requires low amounts of energy, and the CO2 can be captured and reused over and over again.

- HOW TO USE – Sea Buckthorn is a ‘Total’ extract, so it can’t be used for diffusion, but you can still use it in an oil burner to enjoy its aroma. Due to its skin-nourishing benefits, it’s a great addition at a ratio of 1-3% to skincare blends, you may need to gently warm it before use to melt the fatty acids.

Sea Buckthorn CO2, a Nourishing, Revitalising Extract
Sea Buckthorn Co2 Extract is a thick, orange paste and may need to be warmed prior to use when blending in oils, lotions or gels. Sea Buckthorn is a very protective oil which is soothing and promotes healthy circulation when used in massage. This oil will leave skin deeply moisturised and its emollient properties are especially beneficial to skin after sun exposure so add around 1-2% to an unfragranced Aloe Gel for after-sun-support.
What is the difference between a CO2 Select and CO2 Total Extract?
Total extracts – These require higher pressure and low temperatures during extraction, with the resultant extract containing a high proportion of compounds such as fatty acids, waxes, resins, and any plant pigments. The oil is similar in nature to a complete extraction of all the Phyto-botanical materials. They are often semi solid or solid and must be gently warmed to use them like a liquid.
Select extracts – Require low pressure and low temperature with the resultant liquid/extract being made up of only volatile material. This method avoids thermal degradation, avoids oxidation and the result can be used like an essential oil. The oil differs from the distilled or solvent extracted version as it can have a very different chemical composition. Select extracts contain between 35% to 95% essential oil along with fatty acids and other fatty substances.

How to use
To create a sweet, spicy and botanical blend, combine 2 drops of Sea Buckthorn (warmed to a liquid) with 1 drop of Sweet Orange Essential Oil and 1 drop of Ginger CO2 Extract and add to 10ml of your chosen carrier oil for an amazing and unusual massage blend which will offer lasting moisturisation and nourishment to skin.
TO NOTE: Do not use in pregnancy or when breastfeeding. Do a patch test 24 hours prior to first use to test for sensitivities and always use diluted at the correct ratio. Not suitable for use on children.
