Peppermint is best known for its refreshing, uplifting, and cooling natural properties. It is commonly used in sports massage blends to help soothe and revitalise tired and aching muscles, as well as in dental care products to cleanse and freshen. Peppermint CO2 extract is naturally anti-bacterial, which makes it a great oil to inhale during the winter months to help to support a healthy respiratory system. Many people also find Peppermint extremely beneficial to their digestive health, we never advise the internal consumption of oils, but simply adding to a massage blend and using to massage the abdomen in clockwise circular motions is enough to reap the benefits of this supportive oil.
Total extracts – These require higher pressure and low temperatures during extraction, with the resultant extract containing a high proportion of compounds such as fatty acids, waxes, resins, and any plant pigments. The oil is similar in nature to a complete extraction of all the Phyto-botanical materials. They are often semi solid or solid and must be gently warmed to use them like a liquid.
Select extracts – Require low pressure and low temperature with the resultant liquid/extract being made up of only volatile material. This method avoids thermal degradation, avoids oxidation and the result can be used like an essential oil. The oil differs from the distilled or solvent extracted version as it can have a very different chemical composition. Select extracts contain between 35% to 95% essential oil along with fatty acids and other fatty substances.
To source the best oil and raw material suppliers, we travel the world and only opt for materials from controlled, sustainable sources that have little or no negative impact on the environment. All of our products are tested for quality and purity in our Hampshire laboratory before we approve them for use.
In addition, none of the Absolute Aromas products are tested on animals, and all are vegan and free from GM materials.
Peppermint is a ‘Select’ extract, so can be used for diffusion. Or why not try as part of a revitalising and cooling massage blend to support tired muscles post-workout. It’s also great when added to an un-fragranced shampoo base as it can give you a fresh boost in the morning and contribute to a healthy scalp – try combining it with Rosemary Essential Oil which can reduce hair fall and contribute to a healthy scalp.
TO NOTE: Do not use in pregnancy or when breastfeeding. Do a patch test 24 hours prior to first use to test for sensitivities and always use diluted at the correct ratio. Not suitable for use on children.
