Benzoin has a sweet, rich and vanilla-like aroma, a popular oil for using in the Winter months as part of steam inhalations, it is traditionally used in Friars Balsam! This rich oil is excellent for helping to nourish dry and weather-worn skin, as part of skincare, bath, and massage blends.
The Benzoin resin is extracted from the styrax tonkinensis tree.
Even diluted to 40%, it can still solidify easily and the bottle may be warmed in the hands or in warm water before use.
The two main types of Benzoin are Siam (styrax tonkinensis) and Sumatra (styrax benzoin). The Sumatran type is cheaper to produce and coarser than the superior Siam type which we stock. This excellent quality Benzoin has been sustainably sourced from Siam.
To source the best essential oil suppliers, we travel the world and only opt for oils from controlled, sustainable sources, that have little or no negative impact on the environment.
None of our products are tested on animals and all are free from GM materials.
DIY TIP: As a treat for weather-worn skin, add 2 drops each of Benzoin, Lavender and Orange to a jar of un-fragranced cream or to 10ml of Sweet Almond oil and massage into skin thoroughly.
