Working with the Planet for a Healthier Future

What does Sustainability really mean?

It’s such a broad term and can be used to encompass a whole host of planet-saving ideas, but to us at Absolute Aromas, our aim is and always has been to provide genuinely clean and green products to our customers.

We embrace all-natural plant-based products for clean beauty, health, and well-being and have been doing this for nearly 30 years!  We want to fulfil the needs of our current generation without compromising those of future generations, focusing on environmental care and social well-being.  Our products are and always will be 100% vegan and free from artificial nasties used in colouring or preservatives.

Our products work hard for the planet!

In recent years, sustainability has edged closer to the forefront of our consciousness and many of us now choose products that are kinder to the planet.  From our humble beginnings in 1994, we have produced consistently high quality, professional grade products that are sourced from the best, most ethical and sustainable suppliers all around the world.  We are always looking to reduce the amount of plastic we use; many of our gorgeous body and home products are contained in reusable or recyclable glass bottles and we never use microplastics as an ingredient and look for natural alternatives always.

sustainabilitySimple ways we can be more Sustainable at Home

A great way to be more eco-conscious at home is to think more carefully about the chemicals we use to clean ourselves and our homes.  Many chemicals in common use in household products can be harmful pollutants to rivers and streams when washed away and can often take a long time to degrade in our natural environment.  This obviously can have a detrimental affect to wildlife and fragile ecosystems, so why not replace those chemicals with natural products which can be equally as effective? This simple body wash recipe is so simple to do, to make your own spa-like body wash you can use for a clean body and conscience!

100ml Unscented Body Wash Base

3 Drops Bergamot Oil

3 Drops Mandarin oil

3 Drops Lavender Oil

Mix these ingredients together with a spatula or wooden stirrer and enjoy a refreshing, planet-loving shower or bath!

Ditch the Microplastics!

Did you know that you might be using plastics without realising it? Micro-plastics are a common ingredient in many exfoliating products, shower gels and even toothpaste!  A simple, planet friendly and sustainable alternative to using these tiny plastic fragments is using sugar or salt as an exfoliant which help to remove dry, dead skin cells or unclog pores.  Our Pure Himalayan Salt Scrub gives dull, dry skin such a rejuvenating treat and you can use it knowing that when the water washes away, the salt granules will simply dissolve harmlessly into the water.

Quick Glossary of Planet-friendly Terminology in the Health, Beauty and Wellbeing Industry

When trying to make more eco-conscious choices, there are aften a mind-boggling array of abbreviations and terminology that are sometimes impossible to understand, so here’s a quick run down of some of the most commonly used words when it comes to sustainability and what they mean.

Parabens: Chemicals used as artificial preservatives in cosmetic products – can cause disruption to hormones.

SLS:   Acronym for Sodium Lauryl Sulphate – an artificial chemical found in cosmetic products to create foam that can be a skin and lung irritant to humans and wildlife.

Microplastics and Microbeads:  Tiny pieces of plastic used in household products, or tiny pieces of plastic debris which can be harmful to animal health and the environment.

Sustainable Agriculture:  Growing and harvesting crops in a way that minimises damage to eco-systems and protects or replenishes natural resources.  Sustainable farming also aims to enhance the quality of life for farm workers and their communities.

Carbon Footprint:  The total amount of harmful greenhouse gasses generated by our actions.

Renewable Resources:  Energy or ingredients that are derived from sources that are replenished at a higher rate than they are consumed.  For example, planting two more trees for every one that is cut down.

Pollutant:  Any substance that makes the air, soil, water, or another natural resource toxic is called a pollutant.  By only using natural ingredients in the products we use in our day to day lives we can reduce pollutants in the atmosphere and in our waters.

Little Changes can have Huge Impacts

It’s as simple as that.  Especially as consumers, we can have a huge impact on what products and lifestyle choices are available to us. Our individual actions and decisions really do matter!  Little adjustments like recycling glass bottles, choosing to use natural, ethical products and reducing our waste are easy to build into our lives…Small changes form new habits which will be passed on to future generations, growing awareness and reducing the negative impact we have on our planet.  There’s no better time to start making those changes than now!
